Father God,
Today, I pray that Your children would understand what Isaiah 54:5 means when it tells us that our Maker is our husband. We look back to verse 4 and we read the command to “Fear not” and “be not confounded” followed by a series of “for” explanations. We come to verse 5’s “for your Maker is your husband” and realize that God intentionally chose us as His bride. Then we read that the “Lord of Hosts is his Name” and “the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer”, and the “God of the whole earth”.
We see the rest of the chapter describing the outworking of being the bride of this Lord, knowing that we are cared for upon this earth by the One who holds all things securely in His Hands. That makes sense of verse 1 calling the barren one to “sing”.
Therefore, as we come to this understanding, let us sing as children of the Living and Sovereign God knowing that although we may see a present time of darkness, He always provides all we need to overcome and bear the fruit of thanksgiving.
In Christ’s Name,
Amen.
